The Flexible Energy Buyer will be responsible for managing our client’s electricity and gas trading strategies.  Responsible for developing our client’s risk strategy and building a suitable trading function including a trading desk and identify and appoint the resources to manage trading activities. They will be accountable for the development and operation of comprehensive risk models for market, credit, operational and liquidity risk covering electricity and gas purchasing. They will manage a portfolio of power and gas trades in order to maximize gross margins within pre-defined risk limits.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage the client’s commodity trading position. Deliver traded energy to meet the client’s risk requirements. Coordinate trading activities with the risk management team, financial reporting, asset management and settlements functions.
• Stay up to date with market trends and provide insight and market analysis to help shape company product and tariff pricing.
• Deliver the client’s internal and external reporting requirements and manage the client’s trading compliance requirements. Manage the client’s understanding and exposure to pass through charges and trading obligations.
• Actively seek opportunities to minimise credit exposure and reduce transaction costs. Minimise the client’s settlements exposure.
• Develop long term hedging strategies that amongst other things incorporate low carbon generation and power purchase agreements (PPAs).
• Create forecasting models and systems for power and gas purchases. Integrate models with the client’s financial systems.
• Develop trading systems to benefit from the advantages of smart metering.
• Advise on energy trading to inform the client’s strategic direction, products and services.
• Develop relationships with third party providers and generators for the supply of electricity and gas.
• Deliver trading arrangements, systems and products for third parties that trade through the client, such as providing white label services.

Personal and professional attributes:

• Detailed knowledge of the energy industry and issues relating to the delivery of software, technical support and energy brokerage
• Proven ability to manage long term contract operation and evolution in conjunction with the internal business, customers and suppliers.
• Proven experience of managing large scale contracts that directly impact on a company’s operations, trading and performance
• Negotiating and drafting contractual / commercial terms and conditions.
• Wide overall knowledge of industry metering arrangements, with a focus on contracts and SLAs with 3rd parties.
• A sales and/or marketing background would be advantageous
• Experience of managing a team would be advantageous
• Experience working for a large Global company in a similar capacity
• Stakeholder management experience.
• Experience of managing complex commercial arrangements across multiple businesses.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience of public sector frameworks and consortia purchasing mechanisms
• Confident at presenting and explaining complex subjects to a variety of audiences
• Analytical and well organised.
