Welcoming Ramadan 2024

We at Global Procurement Group extend our warmest wishes to our observing Muslim colleagues this Ramadan, which began around March 10th and will be concluding on April 9th.

Recognised as a time of fasting, prayer, and community, Ramadan offers a unique moment for all of us to engage with and respect the cultural diversity within our workforce.

At its heart, Ramadan is more than abstaining from food and drink from dawn till dusk. It’s a period earmarked for spiritual introspection and a recommitment to faith.

The essence of fasting goes beyond the physical, encouraging a journey of inner reflection, patience, and empathy. This observance is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, integral to the Muslim faith, and a time when the importance of community and giving, through charity, is profoundly highlighted.

This year, the fasting days are gradually becoming shorter. As the length of daylight hours decreases, so too does the duration of each day’s fast. This subtle change in the fasting period can significantly impact the daily routines of our colleagues observing Ramadan, offering them a bit more flexibility and comfort during their fast.

The adjustment to shorter fasting days also brings to light the adaptability required during this holy month. Our colleagues’ ability to adapt to these changes year on year is a testament to their commitment to their faith and practices.

Recognising the varied needs of our team during Ramadan is key. We advocate for an environment where understanding and flexibility are not just encouraged but embedded in our corporate ethos. Simple considerations, such as scheduling flexibility and sensitivity towards fasting colleagues, can significantly enhance our workplace inclusivity.

At GPG, we are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and supporting our colleagues’ expressions of faith. In each of our offices, we have opened quiet rooms which can be used for prayer as well as ablution facilities to provide a quiet and reflective space. These spaces are open to everyone.

Ramadan underscores values such as empathy, resilience, and community spirit. It’s an opportune time for us at GPG to embody these ideals, fostering a supportive and understanding work culture. Let’s use this period to reinforce our commitment to a workplace that celebrates diversity and encourages mutual respect.

To our colleagues observing Ramadan, we extend our warmest wishes for a peaceful and reflective month. Ramadan Mubarak!
